Meyer's Elgin Smokehouse makes a variety of rubs, sauces and other delectible delights that I have had the privalige of reviewing. The Original BBQ sauce is no exception. From its sweet and tangy scent to its mouth filling flavor this sauce is a delight.

First Look
The Original Barabecue sauce is a beautiful amber color with spices suspended in it. It has a nice consistencey for pouring and for painting onto meats. When you open the bottle you get a whiff tomatoes, sweetness and vinegar which makes your mouth start to water.

The sauce.

Taste
When tasted by itself, you can taste the tomato at the front along with a sweet tang from the sugar and vinegar. At the end there is a little heat. Not a mouth numbing heat of a hot sauce but a warming sensation from the pepper in it that is nice. You can also taste undertones of onion and garlic which really help to balance out the sweetness.

Use
I used this sauce on MOINK balls for the final glaze. The sweetness and salt brought out the flavors of the bacon and meatballs and made for a wonderful flavor. This sauce would be great for finishing off ribs, chicken and pork chops. The balance of it enhances the flavors of the rubs and meat.
Glazed MOINK balls soon to be eaten.
Final Analysis
I like this sauce. On the Gibbs Ribs scale* it gets a solid full rack of ribs. It brings great flavor to a dish without overpowering it and makes for a good dipping sauce for fries.

*When I do reviews, books or otherwise, I rate the items with ribs (they are my favorite BBQ dish). A full rack is great and a single rib is poor. I will tend to stick to a full rack, half rack or one rib.
